In this quick 2 minute video, we show what we can do to blend together old and new slabs after you have done a renovation.
Renovating a property often means dealing with mismatched floor slabs—old concrete in one section, fresh new pours in another. It can be a headache trying to create a clean, cohesive finish across inconsistent surfaces. That’s where full flake seamless epoxy flooring offers a practical and attractive solution.
A Common Renovation Challenge
We get a lot of enquiries from people mid-renovation, wondering what to do with uneven or misaligned floors. Whether it’s a garage, shed or extension, once new slabs are poured beside older ones, the difference is noticeable. You’re left with surface imperfections, varying heights, and concrete in varying conditions.
One recent project perfectly illustrates this problem—and the solution.
From Uneven Mess to Seamless Finish
In this example, we were working with a shed that had been expanded around an old timber structure. The original slab was rough, uneven and crumbling in sections. It looked like a home handyman had attempted to pour it, and unfortunately, it showed.
Around the perimeter, a brand-new slab had been poured, creating a sharp contrast between the old and new. The level difference in some areas reached nearly 40mm. The old section also had exposed steel, soft, weak concrete, and surface waves that would have made any flooring job difficult.
How Epoxy Solves It
To address these issues, we first used patching compounds to help even out the worst height variations and surface defects. Although the client didn’t want a full mirror-finish or laser-levelled result, we were still able to achieve a visually consistent and practical finish.
The result? A full flake seamless epoxy floor that completely disguises the transition between old and new slabs. It’s not just more attractive—it’s also more durable, easier to clean, and helps protect the surface from further deterioration.
Why This Matters for Renovators
If you’re facing a renovation project where two or more slabs don’t match, epoxy flake flooring can be a game-changer. It’s especially useful in:
- Garage conversions
- Shed upgrades
- Extensions or additions
- Workshop renovations
By applying a seamless finish across the entire area, epoxy unifies the space, hides flaws and provides long-term protection.
A Flexible and Cost-Effective Option
In this case, the client opted for a practical outcome over a premium-level surface finish. That’s one of the benefits of epoxy flooring—it’s flexible to your needs and budget. Whether you want flawless showroom results or just need to blend the old with the new in a tidy, hard-wearing way, full flake epoxy is a smart option.
